Social Science Analysis Training Cadre
Lois Cowell, teacher at South Middle School in Grants Pass, and Martha Murphy of the SOESD were among 30 social sciences teachers who attended a training institute in June and are now ready to serve as the Social Science Analysis Training Cadre. Members can provide assistance to schools and districts as they align their instruction to the academic content standards for Social Science Analysis and as they provide opportunities for students to seek the Social Sciences Subject Area CIM Endorsement.
Students who are in the 10th grade in 2005-06 (graduating class of 2008) are the first group of students required to meet or exceed the work sample requirement in the dimensions of Frame and Conclude in addition to meeting or exceeding the performance standard on the Social Sciences Knowledge and Skills Test to earn the Social Sciences CIM Endorsement. Schools should prepare to offer students the opportunity to earn the endorsement.
Murphy says she recommends the Social Sciences CIM Endorsement as a part of the collection of evidence for students wishing to earn a CAM endorsement, especially for those whose career pathways are in the areas of Arts and Communications, Business and Management, or Human Resources.
School contact information for cadre members is available at www.ode.state.or.us/go/socialsciences. Further social sciences teaching information is available on the ODE website at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=24.
