School Funding - The Future
ESD Funding Sources and Partnerships
One of the SOESD goals this academic year is to explore funding sources and partnerships. Given the economic situation of Oregon and issues of school funding, it is unlikely that much new money will be forthcoming to initiate new projects. A shift in the school funding formula from the legislative session means ESDs have decreased funding. It was determined that SOESD must increase its capacity to expand partnerships and seek grant support. SOESD manages over $4.5 million in grants or contracts annually.
SOESD administrators and office-based licensed staff are participating in a grant writing and management seminar during the 2005-06 year. All administrative and office-based licensed staff are expected to be involved in one grant during the 2005-06 year. We will measure the number of grants submitted and received and the number of staff involved in writing grants.
SOESD has hired local grant writing expert Kathy Ingram to lead our grant seminar. District representatives and higher education staff were invited and are participating with ESD staff. The seminar started with a one-day session on the basics of grant writing on October 4th. Monthly two-hour sessions will address the following topics: grant elements, budget preparation, management, objectives and evaluation, foundation sources, state and federal grants, demographic descriptions of the region and grant web sites.
We hope to develop local partnerships with private and public organizations and generate fundable projects for schools and students in Southern Oregon.
