BJ Reed's Recommended Reading

Books:

  • Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley and Harry Lodge
It is a funny and practical guide to what you can do every single day from now on to get healthier, more energetic and look better. If I could buy just one book, this would be it! Pink for women and yellow for men.
  • Infinite Possibilities by Mike Dooley
This is the author of “thoughts become things” who believes absolutely anything is possible for every person in his/her life. A great source of inspiration!
  • Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach
An entry for each day of the year makes this a book you can read again and again. I am actually on my 9th time through and still discovering new things! (I wonder if that says more about the book or about me?!)
  • The Intellectual Devotional by David Kidder and Noah Oppenheim
There are four books in this set with each one focusing on different areas: US History, Modern Culture, Seven Fields of Knowledge and Health. They provide a perfect opportunity to “learn something new every day”.
  • The Daily Word published by Unity
A little pamphlet with a theme for each day like joy, gratitude, belief. There is a verse of scripture at the end of each one. Some of written more biblically than others.
  • Authentic Happiness and Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman
These are two books by the same author who started the School of Positive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. They are both so interesting and have ideas to make one’s life more positive. They were a big part of my training to be a Wellcoach.
  • Mindset by Carol Dweck
Written by a professor this book is a great resource for anyone in education. It talks about a fixed vs. a growth mindset and what that means for the classroom, for students and for anyone wanting to reach a goal. Really interesting!
  • Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky
Another book by a professor which has become the acclaimed guide to stress, stress-related disease and coping. He is very funny as well! Both this entry and the previous were written by people who teach at Stanford- someone must think they know what they’re talking about! I agree- they do!

Websites:

  • Real Age - great practical free advice about exercise, food and any topic related to health. There is also a survey you can take that reveals your “real” age.
  • Notes from the Universe - a daily, free little thing to think about. This is written by the thoughts become things author, Mike Dooley, and is both funny, irreverent and thought-provoking!
  • Daily Challenge - a very simple challenge each day to do something that expands some horizon- some involve movement, some connecting with others, some learning something, some food. Fun to do and takes about a micro second!
