Flip Cam to DVD Guide

Questions? Call (541-858-6730), email or stop by SOESD's Computer Information Services department.

First, you'll need:

  • A Flip Video Camcorder (if you have a different camera, try just “Making the DVD”)
  • Flipshare software installed on your computer (plug in the camera to install)
    • Choose "View your Flip Camcorder Videos using the program provided on the device".
    • Click "I Agree" to the license.
  • DVDFlick software, installed (get it here: http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php)
  • A blank DVD
  • Patience, if you're making a long movie!

Exporting the Videos:

FlipShare Menu
FlipShare Menu

  1. Insert a blank DVD.
  2. Open FlipShare software.
  3. If the videos are on your camera: go to the "Camcorder" section and select the videos you want. Press the "Save to computer" button.
  4. Find your video(s) under Computer, right-click on each and "export to" your Desktop (create a new folder to store the items).
    1. Repeat exporting videos until done.
  5. Close FlipShare.

Making the DVD:

DVD Flick Menu
DVD Flick Menu

  1. Open DVD Flick.
  2. At the bottom, choose a "Project Destination Folder" (where spare files are stored) by clicking the "Browse..." button. Choose to "Make new Folder" and give that folder a name.
  3. Click "Add Title".
    1.  Select your video file.
      1. Continue "Adding Titles" until all your videos are added.
    2.  After video clips are in the main screen of DVDFlick, sort them (if necessary).
  4. Click the "Project Settings" button.
    1. Enter a Title for your DVD.
    2. Click the "Burning" tab, and check "Burn project to disc". Enter a Label for the disc.
    3. Click "Accept".
  5. Click "Menu Settings"
    1. Choose a menu from the left (any will do).
    2. Click "Accept".
  6. Click "Create DVD".
  7. DVDFlick will warn you that the "Destination Folder's" contents will be deleted. This should be OK, as long as you made a new folder.
  8. Hang tight! DVDFlick will first encode your videos, and then open up another program to burn your DVD. Burning the DVD and "finalizing" the disc may take a while!

These instructions have only been verified to work with Flip Video Camcorders.
