VoIP Coming to Southern Oregon ESD
Skype, Vonnage, VoIP....all terms currently seen in ads for Voice over IP communications. Many local cable companies including ours can now connect your home or business phone lines to VoIP. Depending on your Internet Provider you can get your TV channels, Movies, Internet and phone service all over one wire. This is called convergence. Instead of having to manage multiple wire systems you now can manage just one. This might not be a big deal for the average home owner, but for businesses and schools this has the potential for saving dollars.
Southern Oregon ESD is having a VoIP system installed during the first quarter of 2008. This system will replace current 'antiquated' system that has a penchant for dropping calls. The new system will mean that phone traffic, data or Internet traffic and IVC (Interactive Video Conferencing) traffic will all be running over the same physical network. Network Sevices and Electronic Services already manage the network for other traffic will also manage phone traffic and the phone system for the ESD. This will save us management costs as well as having the potential to lower our long distance phone costs.
