SOESD Launches Pilot Program Online
School Improvement Team
|Teena Staller, SOAR Teacher|
This fall, SOESD is piloting a new online program called Southern Oregon Academic Resource. SOAR is designed to be a full-time, core academic, online program for elementary students in SOESD’s three-county region.
Beginning with 4th and 5th grades this fall, and planning to expand to other grades in future years, SOAR will provide an alternative placement for districts needing solutions for unserved or underserved students, including those who are medically fragile. Students will be officially enrolled in their neighborhood school/district and placed in SOAR using district procedures for alternative placement.
Neighborhood schools will provide local services that include a case manager, Accelerated Reader testing and library book check-out, an Oregon-mandated testing site, and access to ESD courier services. Using a full-time, experienced, Oregon-licensed teacher and families as learning partners, SOESD will provide differentiated curriculum and instruction based on best practices, student needs, and student learning styles, resource materials for content delivery, and attendance and academic progress reporting.
Teena Staller, on special assignment from the Medford School District, is the teacher for this program. To receive additional information, contact Virginia Petitt, Online School Specialist at 541-858-6723 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
