STEAM Kickoff Event 3-15-2018 !

Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) is launching a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) event on March 15th at the airport in Grants Pass, Oregon in partnership with Southern Oregon Air Academy (SOAA) and local community, education, and industry partners.
The event is designed to spark studentsí imaginations and interest in the exciting variety of high wage, high demand, and high skill STEAM career opportunities in the southern Oregon region, with a focus on an aviation and engineering sciences education pathways and careers. Students and families will learn about plane-building projects, afterschool programs, and summer camps in a variety of STEAM career fields, and how to earn scholarships for pilot training, while being inspired by the variety of STEAM related career pathways! SOESD is planning regional Technical Academies in Josephine County in partnership with SOAA for aviation and engineering, in Jackson County with Rogue Community College for medical and advanced manufacturing, and in Klamath County to support area economic development.
Shaesta Waiz, the youngest woman to fly solo around the world in a single-engine aircraft, will be the eventís keynote speaker. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Waiz is the founder of Dreams Soar, and travels the world inspiring and supporting young women wanting to pursue an education in aviation and STEAM. Additional partner presentations include Alaska Air Group and Pacific Aviation.
All students and families from across southern Oregon are encouraged to attend. 9th and 10th grade students from Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties must register their interest in attending the 2:00 p.m. event. Participating schools will coordinate transportation and permission slips. All other interested students, their families and community must register for the 6:00 p.m. event.

- Dedicated for 9th-10th grade students and all transition/youth staff from Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties
- 6:00 PM Family Session
- Session open to families and all age groups interested in learning more about new opportunities.
